My personal favorite remains using the dedicated tool to capture a screenshot with TweakShot Screen Capture tools. As it allows several features to capture almost every kind of screenshot, plus it offers the ability to screen record videos with mouse movements. After applying the changes, you can press the PrtScrn key on the keyboard to bring up the tool to take a snip or full-screen capture of anything that you’re running on the desktop.

You can also select if you want your Linux partition to be automatically mounted on startup (you shouldn’t use this option for USB drives and removable media). If you want to enable write support for an EXT4 filesystem, select Ext2 Management, uncheck the Mount volume in readonly mode box and then click Apply. The KNOPPIX Linux distribution was the first to create a live Linux version, even back before there were DVDs (it was called a LiveCD!). What keeps KNOPPIX at the top of the list of popular Linux distributions is the myriad of utilities it includes by default. It touts itself as a rescue disk — a way to boot your PC if things go horribly wrong with the existing operating system, and be able to troubleshoot and possibly fix issues. • The Game Bar has a screenshot tool that appears as an overlay on top of games.

Windows 10 has many ways to achieve this, be it taking a screenshot of the entire screen, a particular window, or a part of the screen. Doing so stops recording screen changes and opens the results window. The recommended format for screenshots is PNG, due to the high quality and small file size.

XBOX Game Bar

Hitting Win + Print Screen captures a screenshot of the entire screen and saves it directly to your drive. The photos are saved in the Pictures library, in the Screenshots folder, as PNG files. This simple keyboard combination is one that we use every day. By simultaneously hitting Alt and Print Screen, instead of capturing your entire screen, Windows 10 will only capture the active window. For those with large displays or multiple monitors with loads of windows open, this is the perfect way to capture only the most important stuff on the screen. The open-source app is widely used by gamers for its robust screen-capture options.

In this article, I’m going to show you the Windows 11 version, which adds a few minor features over the older Windows 10 version. If you write about computers or software, sooner or later, you’ll need to take a screenshot . A Download faster alternative is to press the keyboard combination Windows Key + Alt + PrtSc when Game Bar is active.
